The road remains to be in good condition. Last night just before dark the pressure ridge blew up. We had a lot of cars backed up until we got the bridge back into place. Everyone made it off okay. The bridge is in 3 feet of water just over pine island. I have not had a chance to check any more ice depths but Brian from Lake Road Lodge checked the road in the bay today with a 20 inch chain saw and could not get through. We are going to have a 60 degree temperature change from yesterday till tonight. Everybody should be very cautious for the next 24 hours no matter what lake or where you are fishing. The ice will have to shrink from the temperature change causing cracks to open and there may be cracks on some of the roads. Please pay close attention to the ice in front of you while you are driving. The resorts will try to keep an eye on the roads and mark any bad spots but this time of year the ice conditions can change fast. Everybody stay safe and use extra caution. Good luck fishing!
Adrian’s Fishing Reports
Today in the bay there was 14 to 15 inches of ice off to the side of the trail. I could not measure the ice on the trail as it was too thick for my 18 inch chain saw. The ice in the lake under the houses we opened today had 15 to 20 inches of ice. Our plan is to open the road on the 26th to full size vehicles and pulling wheel houses up to 21 feet long. It is going to be cold so we expect to gain a little more ice by then. Good luck fishing!
Today out in the bay there was 11 to 13 inches of ice. Out in the lake it was 13 to 16 inches of ice. No full size trucks yet. We are allowing mid size vehicles not pulling wheel houses and atvs with wheel houses up to 17 feet long. Some of the resorts are out there with plow trucks in order to get there work done. This does not mean you can drive your truck. If we crack up the trail in the bay we can not just move over like we do on a normal year on early ice because there is slush areas of to the side in the bay. Everybody be patient we will open the road when we feel that it will not screw it up for everyone. By the way a 1/2 ton truck is not mid size. The fishing is good with most of the resort houses out in 25 to 28 feet of water. Good luck and be safe.
Today in the bay we had 10 to 11 inches of ice. Out in the lake there was 11 1/2 to 14 inches of ice. The road is not open yet we need a couple of more inches. I will let you know when it is open. Please do not take your full size trucks out yet. There are a lot of people using the trail across the bay and we do not want to crack it up. Thank you and good luck fishing.
Today in the bay there was 7 3/4 to 9 inches of ice. In the lake there was 10 to 12 1/2 inches. We did not make any ice in the bay for several days but now the snow is harder and it is starting to freeze through the snow so hopefully we will start to make good ice. The fishing has been good from 17 to 24 feet of water with good numbers of walleye and saugers. Just 4-wheelers and snowmobiles for now. Good luck fishing and try to stay warm.
I checked the ice in the bay today and still had the same as three days ago at 7 to 8 1/2 inches of ice. The lake gained a little at 8 1/2 to 10 inches. Even with the cold weather the snow will slow us down on making ice. The trail in the bay is in good shape tonight witch is a lot better than this morning. The lake is a little bit tougher to get around but everybody seem to be managing it ok. There was some slush after the storm but most of that has froze back up solid. The fishing reports have been good. Good luck fishing and be safe.
Today in the bay there was 7 to 8 1/2 inches of ice. In the lake there was 7 1/2 to 8 3/4 inches. We have not had a lot of snow yet so things look good out there yet. We are suppose to get the heavy snow tomorrow. We will have to see what it looks like after the storm. I will give you an update when it is all done.
We marked a trail across the bay today. There was 5 3/4 to 6 3/4 inches of ice in the bay and the crack from yesterday was getting solid with no problem crossing it. The crack in the lake came together last night and was not a problem to cross. The lake had 6 1/2 to 7 inches of ice. The fishermen in 17 feet this afternoon limited out in 2 hours with nice fish. Happy Thanksgiving and be safe.
In the bay today I had 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 inches of ice. There was a crack about half way across the bay that was moving a little bit. In the lake there was 6 to 6 1/2 inches of ice with a 28 inch wide crack at 18 feet of water. We flooded the island and cut through some rough ice on the lake side of the island today. We being 15 people from 7 different resorts. Thank you to everybody that helped out.. I might mark a trail tomorrow across the bay. If you do venture out be careful and watch for cracks.
Today out in the lake the ice was 16 to 18 inches. In the bay off to the side of the road it was 13 to 14 inches with alot more on the road. Tomorrow we are allowing 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks and pulling wheel houses up to 22 feet long. The road is plowed out to 5 miles past pine island. We do not recommend going out in the middle off the night because we are not out there to check for cracks on the road. This pertains more on a night with a significant cool down as these are the times when the ice shrinks and you get cracks on the roads.
